Anal Bleaching
It was those times when I had not been having a whole lot of fun and as sometimes happens I had kind of let myself go. I don't mean I gained a whole lot of weight or forgot to shave or lost my social graces. But little things happened and I didn't take care of them immediately. One of the things that I had been doing was not eating properly. As I mentioned I didn't gain weight but if you don't eat properly one of the unpleasant side effects is constipation which leads of course to hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids are not anybody's idea of fun -- at least I don't think so. Although greasing up your finger and pushing them back inside does have its rewards. I hadn't been diligent about eating enough fiber or taking care of the hemorrhoids as they appeared on my otherwise not so bad body – I am far too modest to say on my otherwise perfect body.
What happened was that as a result of the hemorrhoids I ended up with a little lump on my rectum. It wasn't very big, perhaps the size of a TicTac. When I realized that it was going to be persistent I thought I better get rid of it. Besides it's always better to be safe than sorry and who knows what little lumps could really be. Also I met someone new and realized that I just didn't want anyone seeing my imperfect anus.
So off I went to the doctor and as he called me into his office the thought flitted through my mind that I would be glad to have my perfect asshole back again.
It was a matter of day surgery -- actually not even quite day surgery. It was office surgery. A little injection and a little snip snip, a stitch or two and I was well on my way to recovery. It might be a few weeks before we could have any kind of encounter but I would be lovely for the occasion.
So when I first read about anal bleaching and realized what it was I could totally relate. Even though we can't see ourselves as others see us -- especially from the anal angle -- there is a sense of confidence and well-being that comes from knowing you look the very best that you can.
As to what looks very best, these are all very personal issues and perhaps you like dark hairy holes. Perhaps you don't. Perhaps you like dark hairy holes in other people while you yourself like a clean white rectum. Or vice versa.
I became so intrigued by the subject of anal bleaching that I decide to do a little investigation.
The Pink Pucker
A few years back I read about rectums -- okay I'm always reading about rectums -- but the particular article but I'm trying to recall now involved a comparison between lips and assholes. The point being made was that our lips are at one end of our alimentary canal and our rectum is that the other end so just as lips come in different shapes and sizes so do our rectums.
Both lips and rectums can be puffy and plump or flat, wide, narrow, or just about any shape at all that you can conjure. I don't believe this because our lips and our rectums each face different challenges. For one thing our lips can stretch a lot bigger than our rectums. This is probably a good thing. If our rectums could stretch too much our insides could fall out. If our lips did not stretch as much as they do, eating might be a challenge.
Anal Bleaching -- What Is It?
My introduction to anal bleaching took place when I heard about Tabitha Stevens, the porn star, who got her butthole bleached at a salon. Dr. 90210 on E! decided to feature this event which took place at a salon known as Pink Cheeks.
I've no problem understanding why a porn star would like to have pink cheeks or pink rectum. After all a large portion of the world will be getting close-up views of that little pink hole. I certainly know that once I had my lump removed I feel a lot better about even one person taking a good close look at my bunghole. If it were going to be on the big screen, I would likely want to take a closer look at just what I could do to make it picture perfect.
Okay. Okay. I'm going to get back to the point and tell you what anal bleaching is all about. Then I'll tell you the reason why people get it done and what the dangers might be as well as the pleasures.
Anal bleaching usually begins with having hair removed from around your anus. Hair gets in the way of full access to the skin that needs to be lightened. Typically this is managed by waxing. The bleaching itself involves repeated application of any bleaching cream that will lighten the pigmentation of your butt crack with particular focus on your ass hole.
Why Skin Colors Vary
Highly pigmented skin, such as an African American might have, tends to become unevenly pigmented as the skin ages. Sometimes the same type of dark skin spots can be caused by pregnancy or other hormonal changes (melasma), medications, acne scars, sun damage, liver spots, or long term skin irritation.
Basically there are only a few reasons why we have unevenly colored skin. Our skin cells are naturally white (or whitish) in color. Blood vessels can show through our skin and give it a reddish or bluish tinge. The darkening of skin depends up the level of melanin in our layers of skin. The number of melanocytes in our skin determines the melanin level. The more melanocytes, the darker the skin.
Skin bleaching the darker spots provides a more even tone because they inhibit the production of melanin so as the melanin in the skin naturally disappears, no new melanin is created and the skin gets lighter.
The idea of bleaching skin is not something new although moving the process to the more intimate areas is relatively new. As noted above, sometimes it takes a couple of weeks to notice any results. And sometimes it can take longer. There is no guarantee that the bleaching will be permanent. You can bleach for weeks and achieve the look you want only to have the skin just turn dark again. Of course, the darkening will not happen overnight just as the bleaching does not take place overnight.
The Procedure
The first step is to wax the anus. I would recommend having this done professionally. The one and only time I attempted to perform my own body waxing the results were painful and not all that aesthetically pleasing. In that case I could see what I was waxing. (My armpits.) The skin tissue in your butt crack is quite delicate and chances are very good that it is much more delicate than anything else you have ever even thought of waxing.
So first you wax the anus -- or have someone wax it for you. Then you apply the anal bleaching cream. More on the cream in a minute.
Please don't be disappointed if you don't know the change immediately. It takes a couple of weeks of nightly applications -- or daily applications -- before you can notice a real difference. I say night because chances are that the cream would stay in place after being applied to the rectum while you were asleep or at least resting.
Don't overdo it. If you really tender you might find the procedure painful. It could burn or sting. Don't forget you just had a wax job and the area has already been agitated.
The Cream
Usually anal bleaching creams contain hydroquinone in a 2 to 5% solution as the active ingredient. Hydroquinone (C6H6O2) is also found in skin tone treatments used by people with dark skin. Hydroquinone is also used in photo processing, the rubber manufacture and hair dyes. It is a potent chemical and considered to be carcinogenic. It interferes with tyrosinase which produces melanin.
A little further details is needed here. Darkened skin is caused by melanin which is formed when the tyrosinase enzymes are activated. Tyrosinase receptors are attached to melanocytes which are the melanin-producing cells. If there is no tyrosinase enzyme, the melanocytes are not able to produce melanin. No melanin equals white skin.
Another chemical that can be a part of a skin bleaching product is mercury. This chemical would worry me more than hydroquinone. It is toxic and cannot be purchased over the counter. And yet people use products containing mercury.
The creams containing hydroquinone and mercury are not however universally easy to acquire because not all of these ingredients are legal in all countries. For instance in 2001, the United Kingdom banned the use of products that had hydroquinone (up to 2 percent) and in 1978, the use of mercury in products was banned. It is banned in Europe and Africa as well.
Products containing hydroquinone can however be purchased in the United States. You don’t need a prescription for it in most cases. Buying it over the counter may not be all that easy. Usually you have to ask the pharmacist to get it for you from behind the counter. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) checked it out and decided that while it could not definitively say that hydroquinone was a possible carcinogen for humans, it did not find enough evidence to stop its sale in the United States.
In spite of any regulations banning these creams, the demand is high and this means that it is becoming a great illegal import from Asia and Africa and the solutions are a lot higher than the 2 percent typically found in controlled production. In the United Kingdom, you can get the creams with 6 percent levels of hydroquinone sold illegally.
Well, since we are into this topic let’s take a look at a longer list of bleaching and lightening agents.
- Extract from the Mitracarpus Scaber plant prevents tyrosinase activity through an active ingredient found known as harounoside. Harounoside is related to hydroquinone.
- Bearberry Extract (or Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi Leaf Extract) has arbutin as its active ingredient. Like harounoside, arbutin is a hydroquinone derivative which inhibits tyrosinase.
- Dithiaoctanediol disables tyrosinase by changing its molecular structure.
- Gluconic Acid binds copper molecules which are needed to activate the tyrosinase enzyme.
- Beta Carotene blocks the melanocyte’s tyrosinase receptor.
- Licorice Extract’s main ingredient is glabridin which does not allow tyrosinase to work.
- Paper Mulberry extract inhibits tyrosinase activity. It is not considered an irritant and is often incorporated into skin lightening treatments.
- Kojic acid (which is produced from fungus) inhibits tyrosinase activity and over time damages melanocytes.
- Azeleic Acid comes from the yeast Pityrosporum ovale and is used in acne treatments. It simply slows down melanocyte activity.
- Tretinoin is the active agent in some medications and it makes cells regenerate faster. Because the cells are turning over more quickly, the melanin cells or melanocytes don’t have a chance to move the melanosomes on and this keep melanin from being formed.
Where to get bleached
There are a few salons such as Pink Cheeks. However, these tend to be in larger urban areas and there are a mere handful of salons that will provide this service. It is worthwhile asking your local salon if they can provide such a service. The waxing is the most difficult aspect but that is all right. The cream is something that you can easily apply yourself.
For facial bleaching, some doctors help with this by providing prescriptions and since the same but again the waxing is the most difficult part of the procedure. Some creams are easy to find on the internet if you just want to go it on your own.
By the way, in the United States the only recognized bleaching agent is hydroquinone. When you go to purchase skin bleach, watch out for words such as lighteners, brighteners or whiteners. These are words that get around the fact that the product is not a real bleach.
You can buy a 2 percent solution of hydroquinone over the counter – just make sure it does not have sunscreen in it. Get the kind advertised to work at night.
Carcinogenic?
The biggest concern about bleaching is that hydroquinone may be a factor in skin cancer. Melanin is a natural protection and removing it or diminishing it could leave you open, so to speak, to skin problems. Hydroquinone – if used for a long time -- thickens the collagen fibers of the connective tissues and this can roughen your skin.
Other concerns include damage to the liver or kidneys. This is related to mercury in the products. If you are the type who won’t eat fish because of mercury levels, then you understand the dangers of mercury.
Aftercare
It is one thing to get your pink pucker, pink. It is another thing to keep it pink. Remember – it does take time. So be patient. Apply the cream nightly. After a bowel movement, use a moist wipe to keep your hole clean. Take the time to poke the wipe up your hole a half inch or so to keep the whole area clean. This keeps any anal leak from staining. After all, what’s the point of bleaching at night if you allow your work to be undone during the day with poor eating and cleaning choices.
Speaking of eating, make sure you get enough fiber to make your bowel movements firmer and less likely to stain because they just move through your anus more smoothly. Cut back on the kinds of food that can leave a stain. Think about coffee, red wine, and colas and what they do to your teeth. If they can stain hard enamel teeth, just think what they can do to your butt hole.
One good thing you don’t have to worry about is the reaction of your cream’s active ingredient reacting to sunlight or reoxidizing. We are talking about the area where the sun doesn’t shine!
Future of Anal Bleaching
Kojic Acid– note the chemical similarity to hydroquinone (C6H6O2) – may very well be part of the second generation of bleaching agents for the body.
Given the problems with the main agent now, hydroquinone, it only makes sense that science is looking for another way of doing the same thing without the same dangers.
The odd thing is that the danger from anal bleaching agents is not necessarily from the creams you can buy through prescriptions but from the illegal imports. For instance, the over the counter products contain a 2 percent solution of hydroquinone, prescription products contain a 4 percent solution and the illegal ones have 6 percent solutions.
You don’t have to be a math genius to know that in this case, more might not be better.
Another bad thing that is currently happening is that a lot of companies are rebranding their lightening products as anal bleaching creams. While their products might be perfect for taking care of hormonal blotches or African-American pigmentation unevenness, the creams were not designed for sensitive areas such as the anal area.
In particular watch out for the percentage of hydroquinone, the amount of kojic acid and ingredients such as methylparaben and propylparaben. These can be harsh for use on your butt hole.
And yet, companies will try to jump on the bandwagon of anal bleaching by relabelling products that might work just fine on your face or hands but might be too harsh for your delicate tissues.
So Why Do It?
Here we are full circle back to why we bleach our anuses. The bottom line (pun intended) is that we want to feel pretty. We don’t want to hide in the dark or distract our focus from fun by worrying about how we look from different angles.
